9. How to request access to a record
- Complete Form 2 (Request for Access to Record), available from the Regulator at inforegulator.org.za/paia, or ask us for a copy.
- Send it to our Information Officer at the email address or physical address in section 3. Give enough detail to identify the record, say which form of access you want, and, for a private body, state the right you wish to exercise or protect and why the record is needed for that.
- If you are asking on behalf of someone else, attach proof of your authority. If you cannot complete the form because of illiteracy or disability, you may make the request orally, and we will complete the form for you.
- We will decide on your request within 30 days of receiving it. This may be extended once by up to 30 days in the circumstances PAIA allows, and we will tell you if so.
- If your request is granted, we will tell you the access fee, if any, and how access will be given. If it is refused, we will give reasons, including the provisions of PAIA relied on.
- A request may be refused on the grounds set out in PAIA, for example to protect the privacy of another person, commercial confidentiality, or legal privilege.
10. Fees
Fees are set by the PAIA regulations. The amounts below are the Information Regulator’s published fees at the date of this manual and may change; the current schedule on the Regulator’s website applies.
