Our Story

From a Small Motorcycle Shop to The 2Wheelers Den

The 2Wheelers Den started in George in March 2011 as a small motorcycle business focused mainly on second-hand bikes. From there, it grew steadily over the years — one customer, one bike and one move at a time.

Over the past 15 years, The 2Wheelers Den has called a few different premises in George home, including one location where the shop stayed for around 11 years. With each move, the business changed a little too.

Today, you’ll find us at 63 Albert Street, George, in a much bigger space with more room to offer more of what riders actually need. Alongside our pre-owned motorcycles, the shop now carries riding gear, apparel, parts, accessories and maintenance products, with different rooms dedicated to different ranges of gear — including a dedicated ladies’ room — as well as our new workshop and service area.

The shop may be bigger and better than when it started, but the idea behind it hasn’t really changed: offer good products, honest advice and fair prices, with prices we work hard to keep amongst the best in town.

Meet Jean René

Better known as “Die Fransman” or “Frenchie”

At the centre of The 2Wheelers Den has always been Jean René Derché.

Known by some around George as “Die Fransman” or simply “Frenchie”, Jean has had a lifelong interest in motorcycles and is a biker himself. He knows bikes, he knows the gear, and he has spent years building up the kind of practical knowledge that doesn’t come from reading a product brochure.

He’ll also be the first to tell you when he doesn’t know something — and then make the effort to find out.

For Jean, running the shop has never only been about making a sale. It’s about treating people fairly, giving them proper advice and helping them find what actually works for them. Some customers have been coming through the doors for years, and quite a few riders stop by simply to have a look around, talk motorcycles or catch up over a conversation.

That is very much part of what The Den has become.

A Family Business, in the Real Sense

Different members of the family have helped out in the shop over the years — and still do — whether behind the scenes, on the floor or wherever another pair of hands is needed. But The 2Wheelers Den has always remained very much Jean’s business, shaped by his personality, his experience and the relationships he has built with customers over the years.

It isn’t a big corporate motorcycle dealership, and it isn’t trying to be one.

It’s an independent local shop where you can walk in, browse without pressure, ask questions, talk bikes and quite possibly find something you didn’t even know you needed.

And after 15 years, that’s still what we want The 2Wheelers Den to be.
